Our Activities

The Division of Thoracic Surgery at our institution specialises in addressing a comprehensive range of neoplastic conditions affecting the lungs, mediastinum, pleura, and chest wall. Our surgical expertise encompasses the treatment of early-stage, locally advanced, and oligometastatic lung cancers. Our commitment to innovation extends to minimally invasive treatments for early-stage lung cancers, including robotic techniques, video-thoracoscopic major lung resections, and parenchymal-sparing procedures. Over the past decade, we have pioneered early-stage lung cancer detection programs utilising low-dose multidetector computed tomography and have incorporated biomarkers and experimental devices for potential breath-based cancer detection.

Moreover, our Interventional Pulmonology program complements our Thoracic Surgery services by offering cutting-edge diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for respiratory diseases. Our Interventional Pulmonologists collaborate closely with specialists across disciplines. Key diagnostic and therapeutic procedures provided by our interventional pulmonology service include Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS), which enables the visualisation of central mediastinal structures and peripheral lung parenchyma, enhancing the accuracy of biopsies and facilitating targeted therapies. Rigid bronchoscopy is utilised for the recanalisation of obstructed airways and palliative interventions such as laser therapy and stent placement.
